make a garden from our ruin

While the idea of the Garden Ruin brand has been around for many years, it was not until 2022 that the reason Garden Ruin should exist really came into focus.  An idea just needs to germinate sometimes, but I do attribute some recent global events, some folks doing good work in different ways, and a need to focus my creative efforts as the catalysts for the brand and website to take on the form you see.

The month of August marks a year since the GardenRuin.com website launched and I figured it was probably overdue to start talking about this effort with the rest of the world, aka, use some social media and make regular updates here. I also plan to start offering items for sale that will have multiple options for how you want the proceeds to be distributed to the organizations supported by Garden Ruin.

Garden Ruin is a growing collection of artistic work and ongoing projects that reflect the simultaneous goals of re-using the waste we create as humans and using that creative result to help others in a meaningful way.

reclaim, repurpose, and restore

You can find out more about ongoing, upcoming, and past projects here.  Not all of these projects are for fundraising purposes, but they all show the same creative repurposing of materials to make something fun and useful.

A NEW GARDEN RUIN FAMILY
The dwellers in Garden Ruin take many forms, but this family is built to steal your heart.

SERIES 2 HAS LANDED!
Burned and hardened by the flames of adversity, they fly for peaceful skies.

“The Why” of Garden Ruin and who it is trying to help.

I had wanted to focus my creative energy to make a difference in ending this war, but could not bring myself to contribute to any military support of Ukraine, as it seemed like that would only be expanding the suffering.  Understanding more about the suffering of the true innocents in the war, the children, led me to focus the efforts of Garden Ruin on providing aid to that group.

In the months since making that the focus for Garden Ruin, my family’s own personal experiences, particularly my own children, have led to an expansion of the brand’s mission.  Living in the U.S. State of Florida, has shown me what conflict can inflict on children with only words and policy.  When a population is forced to choose between losing the quality, or even existence, of their current life in regards to their gender or fleeing the State that is inflicting that change, then those children need help in staying healthy and safe during this different kind of conflict.
